Atlas Baggio

Baggio is the largest seasonal settlement (known as a maggengo or monte) in the Valle di Livo. It can be reached only by a steep flight of steps marked regularly by a Via Crucis, which climbs up to the village. It consists of small buildings very close to each other and of different types depending on their function and the period when they were built. For the most part they consist of a cluster used for the cattle, with a cowshed below and a hayloft above, and a second smaller cluster used as accommodation and for drying chestnuts.
The urban structure is centralized but, unlike other examples, here it is larger and well preserved. These features make this small village unique. All the details of this panorama, such as the materials (stone and wood), the typology, its location on the hillside and the orientation of the buildings, are related to an ancient building tradition consistent with their function and the landscape that contains them.
