Baradello Castle stands on a hill historically used as a strategic position for controlling the territory (6th century). The present appearance of the tower, all that survives of the castle today, dates from the time of Frederick Barbarossa and the Visconti, when it was built higher. Today the site is open to visitors as part of the Parco della Spina Verde. The tower, termed a “Beacon of Peace” by Giovanni Verga, offers unique 360° views over the city, the Alps and the Po Valley.
