An important natural resource whose course, sometimes very fast flowing, was guided into channels hewn out of the stone, still visible, to harness the hydraulic energy that powered mills, trip hammers, grinders and bellows in workshops. Along the Valle d’Intelvi, in the past, the torrent played an interesting part as a link between the Larian territory and Canton Ticino, flowing into Lake Como at Argegno (Telo di Argegno) and into the Ceresio at Osteno (Telo di Osteno), whose confluence with the Torrente Lirone generates an impressive Orrido (or gorge).
