From the Latin stricta, “alley, narrow lane”. A vertical path linking the settlements higher up the hillside with the shore. It is very steep and hemmed in between walls. In buildings that directly face the water, to avoid limiting the horizontal connections that pass along the banks, sometimes in the first level of the house fronts on the lake one finds the characteristic charming porticoes used for many of the tasks related to fishing – for working on nets, preparing traditional dried fish – and ideal for the storage and maintenance of boats.
