Atlas Terraces

In agriculture, terracing was the solution to the need to create arable land on slopes such the lakeside. They created greater acreage, offered good orientation to the sun and excellent absorption of rainwater. The terraces at Palanzo were oriented to the lakefront. Rows of grape vines were grown between the end of one terrace and the start of the next. All the terracing was available for growing wheat, vegetables and fruit. The drystone retaining walls were built out of moltrasina stone.
