The lighthouse, designed as a commemorative monument marking the centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta, is an octagonal tower with a spectacular spiral staircase with 143 steps leading to two panoramic balconies and the lantern. Its position makes it widely visible and an excellent viewing point. In the Como panorama it is an unmistakable landmark with an exclusively symbolic value.
